‘massive intellectual property theft’
The problem is now more than ever that theft occurs not just outside America, but within. Inventors here now only succeed in enforcing their patents 3% of the time through appeal, our damages have been artificially constrained by some courts so our large infringers even on the rare occasion when we can enforce our patents get off with only a slap on the wrist, and we no longer can get injunctions to stop that theft. Our large competitors have nothing to lose.
The irony of this is that America allows this theft to occur within its borders where it has complete control while large multinational infringers (thieves) divert the government’s attention to theft overseas where it has little control. They want the government to stop theft of their products overseas while they rob and crush their small American competitors here. Can you say, ‘hypocrites’?
First, let’s fix what we can control here then we’ll work to fix what we can overseas. Truly, ‘The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves’. We are encouraged that the President acknowledges there is a problem, whereas many inventors will tell you the prior administration helped create it. Now let’s work together to fix it.
